Using millenarian olive trees Maximo Riera created a singular console tables collection called Millennial. Máximo Riera’s intention is to pay tribute to the olive-tree’s natural characteristics by redefining its rustic appearance. He does so by keeping its immutable essence untouched, providing a second opportunity for a continuos life. The peculiar shaped trunks and roots reveals their capacity for survival and adaptation. A legitimate witness of history, slowly sculpture by the Elements.
These trees, planted some 900 years ago, produced what is wildly regarded as the highest quality olive. Once the production cycle ends and for other damages, they are unfairly discarded.
The Polyhedral structure frames the composition with an effect of constant balance and motion. It acts as a platform the accommodates both entities in one single creation.
‘The wood is divided in sections with the idea of bringing the sterile material back to life, presenting its essence in a new form but at the same time, respecting its immutable soul’ – Maximo Riera
The volumetric conditions and particular attributes of each tree are carefully studied to better select the most suitable pieces for elaboration the console.
The combination of the color and shape are chosen individually by the artist for each composition. The polyhedral structure praises the composition, framing the wood, sousing an effect of constant balance and motion.
How amazing these tables are! What do you think?
